If you are new to research administration and Other Support (OS) is a mystery to you, join us! By the end of our class time together, participants will know the definition & purposes of OS as it relates to NIH (the what & why); the specific roles that need to have OS addressed (who); recognize when OS is needed (when); the basics in effort change, systems needed & much more! This course explores the many ways OS may be interpreted & connects to specifics within the NIH GPS, the OS webpage, OS format pages, OS Samples & OS FAQs. NOTE: 30 minutes of Pre-work is required to be submitted 24 hours prior to the session: 10 minutes of this Pre-work includes listing the “Most Proactive Things” we could do now & throughout the OS process to help ‘things’ run as smooth as possible. 10 minutes of Pre-work also includes listing the “Worst Possible Things” that could happen while creating or submitting OS. If you have never ‘done’ OS, this is your opportunity to engage with your colleagues

If you have access to technology such as a laptop, tablet, or phone that can search online, please BYOD (bring your own device). These devices may be helpful to use during our time together to calculate costs, review policies online, etc. BYOD is not required but is recommended. By attending our educational sessions, you grant permission to Duke University the unrestricted right to reproduce photographs taken for the purposes of publication. If you need to opt out for some reason, contact the Instructor via email at least 24 hours prior to class. We cannot reimburse for copies or parking, however you are welcome to bring pen, paper, highlighters, water & a snack. As with many Duke University classes, a $100 no show fee will be charged to participants who cancel after 11:59pm the day prior to the scheduled class or do not attend the class registered for.
