Priming of the syringe administration set can be accomplished in two ways, manual priming or priming the set with the syringe. Manual priming of the set should be done in accordance with your hospital policy.

The Prime Set with Syringe option delivers a limited amount of fluid to prime the administration set prior to being connected to a patient. When priming, a single continuous press of the PRIME soft key delivers up to 2 mL of priming fluid. This option is only available after the syringe and infusion type have been selected and prior to beginning the infusion

With either priming method, prior to priming (if applicable) the pressure sensing disc must be removed from the instrument and should be inverted and depressed between two fingers during priming. Always ensure that there is no air in the syringe or syringe set. After fully primed, clamp tubing to prevent inadvertent or uncontrolled flow.
